The Department of Higher Education is the authority for administration of Higher Education in the state of Madhya Pradesh. College and university education except medical, engineering, agriculture and veterinary comes under the purview of the Department. The Department strives for the creation of new institutes for higher education and assist new institutes in establishing and providing teaching facilities. Administration of Post Graduate programs in arts, commerce and science is also the responsibility of the department. Research work in arts, commerce, and science in colleges and universities are conducted under the administration of the Department. The Department also prescribe syllabus for college education and provides different Fellowships and Scholarships. Besides taking care for studies in sciences, commerce and arts Department also started vocational courses in different colleges and universities in numerous disciplines.
